Feed Pumpkin to your Hermit Crabs!

When you carve your Halloween pumpkin, you’ll be scraping out the insides which includes the seeds and pulp. Reserve a little of both to feed to your hermit crabs!

Can Hermit Crabs Eat Pumpkin Seeds?

Yes, hermit crabs can eat pumpkin seeds! While pumpkins aren’t a part of their diet in the wild, they do like to eat (safe) seeds of all kinds including pumpkin!

Pumpkin seeds are healthy for people to eat, and good for hermit crabs too!

Grow a Microgreens TREAT in a mini Halloween Candy Bucket for your hermies to enjoy!

Microgreens grow super fast and are a nutritious TREAT!

Microgreens are super nutritious snacks for your hermit crab pets. And they are super easy to grow, and fast! We planted microgreen seeds in this mini Halloween bucket, placed it under grow lights (a sunny windowsill works too!) and within a week we had a full bunch of microgreens.

Place live microgreens inside your hermit crab habitat for your hermies to snack on for Halloween AND throughout the rest of the year! Here’s more information on growing microgreens for hermit crab pets.

Add a mini-fogger with colored lights for some spooky Hermit Crab Halloween Haunted Habitat Fun!

Mini-foggers are safe fun ways to add a little extra humidity to a hermit crab habitat AND a little Halloween creepy vibe!

Mini-foggers sit inside water and atomize it creating a nice (spooky) fog. The one we use has lights and changes colors. They can be used in planters, ponds, aquariums, vases and hermit crab water pools!

These mini foggers need to be submerged in water, so a shallow water dish won’t work. But if you have a deeper water pool inside your hermit crab habitat, add a mini fogger for some fun! The atomized water is also a good way to add a little extra humidity to the habitat.

Add Spooky Lighting to the Habitat!

There are a bunch of ways to add fun, spooky or attractive lighting affects to liven up your hermit crab habitat! For Halloween fun, place an inexpensive LED Backlight behind the enclosure. The light will shine through and look really spooky and cool! Or add an orange, purple or black light bulb into your existing top lights on the habitat.

Simply place a light behind the enclosure for a fantastic glowy effect!

Add a Crafty Custom Halloween Sign for Decoration

Design a custom Halloween sign for decoration

Cute crafty custom Halloween signs can be made easily with a little creativity, some craft wood and Mod Podge or similar type of sealer.

What we did:

1. We designed our sign on canva.com. There are tons of Halloween elements (art) to choose from, and designing is super easy using this platform (free).

2. We printed it on thick brochure paper, and cut out.

3. We cut a thin piece of craft wood

4. We used Mod Podge to glue the sign onto the wood.

5. Then we added a top layer of Mod Podge to seal it.

6. We used hot glue to adhere a wood dowel onto the wood sign so we could stick it into the sand substrate in the habitat. Or to adhere to the outside glass, simply use a piece of double sided removable Gorilla tape (hot glue may work also, but we haven’t tried that way yet).

This is the wood we used to make the Halloween sign shown

This is what we used to glue and seal (under and over) the sign.

Happy Halloween!
