The most common type of hermit crab in the U.S. and Caribbean Islands is Coenobita Clypeatus (aka Purple Pincher, Tree Crab, Caribbean Hermit Crab). It is the type of hermit crab that can live the longest in captivity, as much as 30 years when well-cared for.
