Hermit crabs are scavengers and will consume a wide variety of foods. This includes pumpkins! When you’re carving your Halloween pumpkin, save a little of the guts and seeds and feed a little to your hermit crab pets!
Pumpkins are a great source of nutrition including fiber and Vitamin A, and raw pulp (pumpkin guts) is packed with lots of moisture, all good for hermit crabs.

Hermit crabs are scavengers and will eat most anything that resembles a food source. They are known to eat some pretty crazy things in the wild! So the questions isn’t really “can” hermit crabs eat pumpkin, because it’s safe and healthy and they certainly can!
Do Hermit Crabs LIKE to eat Pumpkin?
The bigger question… will your hermit crabs LIKE to eat pumpkin? Both the pumpkin pulp and the seeds are safe for them to eat, just as they are very safe and nutritious for humans to eat. However, pumpkin is not part of their diet in the wild and they may have never eaten pumpkin before you feed it to them. Will they actually like it?
Our suspicion is that IF they were in the wild, and the stumbled upon raw pumpkin, they would certainly eat it! And it would be very healthy for them. Pumpkin pulp has a high amount of moisture in addition to the nutrients, which is great for them when fresh water is scarce.
Feed your hermit crabs fresh, nutritious foods! Most hermies don't recognize mass produced brown pellets as food!
